Billionaire Aloys Wobben, the founder of German wind turbine manufacturer ENERCON, has died aged 69 after a long illness. A joint statement from the Aloys Wobben Foundation and Enercon said: "The board of the Aloys Wobben Foundation and the Enercon management are sad to hear the news of the death of the founder and benefactor and express their deep sympathy." Founded in 1984, Enercon, headquartered in Aurich, Lower Saxony, had around a 12 per cent share of the European wind turbine manufacturing market in 2020. Wobben (pictured) had a net worth that was estimated to be approximately $7.9 billion. #windenergy #billionaire #windturbines #germany

I had the honor of working with him as a structural engineer in the 1980s and tested his innovative concrete towers around the turn of the millennium. I had the privilege of being present when Aloys Wobben was awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Kassel in 2006 (see Photo) and the Karmasch Denkmünze from Leibniz University Hannover in 2014. It is tragic that fate did not give him a retirement in health and that he left us so early. He gave us so much. His legacy is our incentive and obligation. RIP
Mr. Aloys Wobben has been in advance by decades with his ideas, a real genius in sales and engineering. He gave a chance to engaged people to develop renewable “Energies for the World”. A real success story for the planet and a foundation for generations. Impressive to see so many personal words for him. Thank you Mr Wobben.
A pioneer leaves the scene. Respect is paid. RIP
A visionary genius, and great Human being, long live his memory! Heartfelt condolences to the Wobben Family
